The department has broad expertise and experience in terrestrial (and marine) ecology, as well as extensive knowledge of species and nature types, the effect of different driving forces on nature and human-nature interactions. The department does basic research, applied research and monitoring, takes on assignments within impact assessments and mapping as well as counselling and evaluations. The researchers at the department also conduct dialogue processes and extensive popular scientific communication. We work in close collaboration with other NINA departments as well as with other national and international research communities.
