Biodiversity and Ecosystem Functioning
Global change, from habtiat alterations to changes in climate, causes distributional shifts in species composition and species extinctions. As vital ecosystem services are affected by changes in biodiversity, we need to understand how ecosystem functioning responds to changes in species composition and community structure.
My major goal is to quantify the role fo species functional diversity and functional composition in affecting important ecosystem processes, such as organic matter decomposition and biomass growth. Most of my work is focused on aquatic ecosystems, both freshwater and marine.
