Research Position in Environmental Economics

Would you like to work on research in one of the nation's leading research institutes? Are you interested in renewable energy and the environment? Would you like to create knowledge-based solutions for the future? The Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) needs more researcher capacity on environmental economics related to biodiversity and ecosystem services. The position will be allocated to NINA’s offices in Trondheim or Oslo.

NINA is an independent research institute and the largest institute in applied ecology in Norway with about 220 employees (www.nina.no). Our newly built headquarters in Trondheim lies near the NTNU at Gløshaugen. NINA has separate research departments in Oslo, Lillehammer and Tromsø and is part of the FRAM Centre in Tromsø and the Oslo Centre for Interdisciplinary Environmental and Social Research (CIENS). NINA has a wide range of clients from industry, government, research council and international institutions. Our motto is: Cooperation and knowledge for a sustainable future.

About the position:
The position is aimed at research in environmental economics in an interdisciplinary environment. The research will include issues of relevance to environmental economic approaches within all of NINA’s thematic areas, with an emphasis on biodiversity, ecosystem services and natural resources, including renewable energy. Recent scientific challenges are the development of geographically explicit economic valuation methods, decision support tools and ecosystem accounting. Projects for the position will be linked to the full range from impact assessments, contract research, and research supported by the Norwegian Research Council and the EU. Furthermore, marketing, implementation, reporting, and dissemination of research will be central to the position, where scientific publishing and the development of new projects nationally and internationally will be included.

Responsibilities:
• Research related to both applied and basic research, as well as contract research
• Project management, including project development, acquisition, implementation, reporting and dissemination
• Strategic planning and development of new opportunities
• Research communication and dissemination, and building of relationship with managers, clients, users and research partners

Who we are looking for?
You are resourceful, outgoing and likes to work with others. You like to communicate knowledge and results. You are ready to face a challenging and varied working day and are flexible with respect to the varied tasks involved in applied research.

Qualifications:
Expertise at PhD level in environmental economics is desirable, but people at Master level with a particularly interesting direction or experience may be considered. Well-developed quantitative expertise, good analytical skills, and experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams is highly desirable. GIS expertise is also a great advantage. Good oral and written presentation skills in English and Norwegian is a requirement, and similar capabilities in another important European language is desirable.

In addition, the following characteristics are emphasized and prioritized:
• Understanding and commitment to multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary work
• Understanding of the needs and challenges of different sectors
• Ability to work in teams and to lead research projects
• Communication skills
